Hopkins Dance FAQs

Why are there 2 different seasons/teams?

Dance Team became a MSHSL (MN State High School League) sport in 1996. Prior to that, most dance teams started their season in the summer and continued year round. As a MSHSL sanctioned sport, the competitive dance team season needed to be shortened to fit the winter sports season guidelines. Because a major part of the high school dance team experience is performing at events throughout the school year, most schools continued their "off-season" dance teams as school activities. Since the winter dance team season is MSHSL sanctioned, it must have a separate coaching staff from the non-winter team.

How do I join Hopkins Dance?

First off, consider if you want to compete (Hopkins Royelles Dance Team/HRDT), just train and perform (Royal Dance Crew/RDC) or do both. Both seasons require a tryout to ensure that we are able to provide the best possible experience for all of our dancers. If you choose to both teams, you will need to attend both tryouts and complete separate registrations.

What does it cost?

The approximate costs for the non-competitive season are as follows:

  • Activity Fee $200 (covers coaches and school fees)

  • White Nikes (any style)

  • Jazz shoes for technique - any style

  • Black Leggings & Black Sweatpants (you may use your own)

Please contact Royelles (Winter) Coach Marit for information regarding Winter season details and costs.
